There are approximately 300 species of octopus, an 8-limbed invertebrate mollusk that can rapidly alter its shape. Octopuses can be found in every ocean. The largest known species is the giant Pacific octopus, which can weight up to 150 pounds and have an arm span of up to 30 feet. The smallest known species is the star-sucker pygmy octopus, which is less than one inch long and weights less than one gram.
